People in the mortgage business often take certain things for granted when it comes to what the average person knows about mortgages. Consumers tend have their own assumptions about mortgages as well.

A recent Zillow survey of more than 1,000 current and prospective homebuyers found surprisingly large numbers were simply unaware of some very basic mortgage facts. This is despite extensive coverage of the mortgage industry in recent years and the high profile it has held in the public awareness since the crash.

Those of us who write about mortgages often glaze over these things, because we figure they're so basic that everyone knows them. But when you deal with something every day, it's easy to forget that what's common knowledge to you may not be that obvious to others.

Asking Prices Get a Boost

Inventories of available properties remains low as the demand for homes is increasing.  The combination is starting to drive prices back up.  Now is a great time to list your home and take advantage of the fact that it's 'slim pickings' out there for buyers who are waiting for the right home to come on the market.  Homes are selling in less time than they were last Spring, and pendings and closings have increased considerably . . . not just locally, but around the country.
